Raven Hill Gypsy Vanners
Services
Breeding excellence, honest horses, and lasting client relationships — by appointment.
Stud Services
Raven Hill accepts a carefully limited number of outside mares each breeding season to protect our stallion’s health and ensure every breeding receives our full attention. Our program prioritizes conformation, bloodline compatibility, and temperament above all else.
Booking Process
Submit a Mare Inquiry
Complete our mare inquiry form with breeding history, photos, and registration papers. We review every application to confirm our stallion is the right match for your mare’s bloodline and conformation goals.
Health Requirements Confirmed
Upon acceptance, you will receive our breeding contract and a checklist of required health documentation. All records must be on file before your mare’s arrival or semen shipment is arranged.
Coordinate the Breeding Window
Our stallion manager works with you and your veterinarian to identify your mare’s optimal breeding window. Live cover is available on-farm. Transported semen is shipped cooled with a 24-hour notice.
Pregnancy Confirmation
We require pregnancy confirmation via ultrasound at 14–16 days post-breeding. Our live foal guarantee covers one complimentary rebreeding in the same or following season if the pregnancy does not result in a live foal.
Mare Health Requirements
- Current negative Coggins test (within 12 months)
- Current core vaccinations: EHV-1/4, EEE/WEE, West Nile, Tetanus, Influenza
- Negative CEM culture (mares that have been bred outside the US or are from unknown breeding history)
- Current negative uterine culture (mares with a history of reproductive issues)
- Veterinary health certificate for mares traveling more than 60 miles
Horse Sales
Every horse we sell leaves Raven Hill with a full history, clean paperwork, and the confidence that comes from honest representation. We do not sell horses we would not keep ourselves.
How to Purchase
Browse & Inquire
Review available horses on our horse listings page. Submit an inquiry for any horse that interests you — we respond within 1–2 business days.
Farm Visit or Virtual Presentation
Serious buyers are encouraged to visit in person. For buyers traveling more than four hours, we offer a comprehensive video presentation and will facilitate a third-party inspection at a location convenient to you.
Pre-Purchase Examination
We strongly encourage a pre-purchase exam by a veterinarian of the buyer’s choosing. We cooperate fully with PPEs and disclose all known history. A horse’s soundness is part of its value.
Contract, Payment & Transport
Upon agreement, a purchase contract is signed and a deposit secures the horse. Remaining balance is due prior to transport. We can recommend experienced, insured haulers who regularly work with Gypsy Vanners.

Training
Our training program focuses on creating cooperative, confident horses using consistent, low-stress methods. We work exclusively with Gypsy Vanners and understand the breed’s particular intelligence and sensitivity.
Program Levels
Ground Manners & Halter Breaking
Essential groundwork for foals and young horses: haltering, leading, tying, loading, handling of feet, and routine veterinary and farrier cooperation. Typically 30–60 days depending on the horse’s starting point.
Halter & In-Hand Preparation
For horses intended for GVHS or open halter showing: proper presentation stance, grooming and braiding for breed standards, free movement display, and handler communication. Available as a standalone module for horses with existing ground manners.
Foundational Under Saddle
Introduction to the saddle, mounting block, walk/trot/canter, basic steering and stops, trail exposure, and desensitization to common obstacles. For horses three years and older. We start slowly and build confidence before pace.
